To kick off our ongoing series spotlighting the 50 contributors to the first issue of slips slips, we’re pleased to feature Eliza Stamps. Eliza provided both a load-bearing illustration and a recipe-based humor piece, making her quite possibly our most eclectic contributor. In addition, she emceed our launch event, making her a true triple threat!
ss: Is there any special background/context to your slips slips contribution that you'd like to share?
ES: Real talk: I've never made this recipe.
ss: Ghost, vampire, werewolf, or zombie? Why?
ES: How about a vampire werewolf? They are both such sexy creatures, it's impossible to choose.
ss: If you had to write/create for an audience of one, who would it be?
ES: Honestly, I write humor for myself. I just sit in front of my computer and chuckle and that's all I can really ask for. But the rest of my work I'd write for just my mom because she thinks I'm very talented and I prefer empty platitudes to well-considered criticism. My artwork is for my dog, and my dog alone.
ss: What has been one of your most satisfying/gratifying creative moments?
ES: Some of my most satisfying creative moments have happened in my writing group. We've met nearly every Monday over Zoom for the past four years. They are some of the most insightful, talented, and generous artists I've ever known. Two of them are also featured in this publication.
ss: Rock or hard place?
ES: How about Hard Rock? Like Black Sabbath or Guns N’ Roses. When you rock out, you're never in a hard place. Unless you're at the Hard Rock Cafe. Because when you're there, you're in both. Once when I was fourteen, I was at the Hard Rock Cafe in Boston with my parents and they asked the server to turn the music down. So embarrassing!
